Redesigning Access to Healthcare
In many regions including Morocco seeing a doctor can mean waking up at 5 AM, waiting hours, or returning home without care. Medical tests? That’s another trip. Prescriptions? Often out of stock. In rural areas, the situation is even worse. I built this app to change that bringing seamless, fast, and reliable healthcare access to those who need it most.

Context
Why I Started This?
My research with over 200 people across Morocco revealed a healthcare experience riddled with frustration:
Long wait times
Doctor shortages
No easy access to medical records
No digital tools to simplify the journey
Patients were left to navigate a broken system. That challenge pushed me beyond visual design into product strategy creating a seamless, patient-first solution that could scale beyond borders.

Research & Strategy
Deep Dive: Healthcare from the Ground Up
I analyzed forums, surveyed patients, and conducted interviews. Here’s what I uncovered:

“The journey felt more like a battle than a service.”
User Insights & Pain Points
Before designing, I organized the survey and interview data into clear categories to understand where users struggled most.
Here’s what stood out from the 200+ responses:

Journey Mapping the Patient Experience
I mapped the typical patient journey to identify where digital intervention could make the most difference.

The Vision
3 Pillars to Disrupt Traditional Healthcare
To reshape how people experience healthcare, I focused on:
Seamless Access
Virtual consultations, instant booking, and digital records cutting out unnecessary visits.Personalized Care
AI-powered suggestions, user-centered filters, and direct access to the right specialists.Trust & Transparency
Verified doctor reviews, peer feedback, and clear healthcare info to build user confidence.
My Approach
A Cohort Model to Keep Things Human
The MVP was shaped around a patient-first model designed to reduce friction:
On-Demand Services
For consultations, records, and guidanceScheduled & Live Support
With reminders and chatbot triageCommunity Reviews
To build trust with verified doctors and user ratings
This wasn’t just about digitizing healthcare it was about making it feel human, intuitive, and empowering.
Competitive Landscape Analysis
To ensure Healio filled a real gap, I compared three leading healthcare platforms DabaDoc, Vezeeta, and Doctolib used across North Africa and globally.
While these platforms successfully digitalize appointments, most still lack a holistic patient journey that connects consultations, records, and personalized support.

What Makes Healio Different ?
Unlike existing solutions that focus mainly on booking, Healio bridges every step of the patient journey from appointment to diagnosis, lab follow-up, and medication.
It combines AI-driven guidance, integrated medical records, and human-centered UX designed specifically for North African users.
This creates a seamless experience where patients don’t just book they navigate, understand, and manage their care in one place.
Iterations That Moved the Needle
Over 4 test phases, I refined the app into a smoother, smarter experience:
Faster Booking
Real-time availability & simplified flowSmarter AI Chatbot
More accurate guidance to the right careOptimized UX
Reduced steps from signup to consultationDigital Records
Secure storage & instant access Partnership Network Clinics & pharmacies integrated for end-to-end care
Every version got me closer to the goal: accessibility that feels effortless.
Impact at a Glance
200+ users surveyed: insights-driven product decisions
51% fewer missed appointments
73% increase in patient follow-through
Trust increased through digital records, reminders, and human-centered AI
I wasn’t just solving usability issues I was redesigning how people experience care.
Global Challenge, Local Insights
While this product was born from insights in Morocco, the problems it solves are global:
Access. Efficiency. Human connection in healthcare.
That’s what makes this case study relevant for any team tackling digital transformation, service design, or user experience at scale especially in health, gov, or platform products.
Reflections & Next Steps
Designing for healthcare taught me that technology alone doesn’t fix the system empathy and iteration do.
What I learned
Early testing uncovers hidden barriers like digital literacy.
Trust in healthcare design depends on clarity, not just aesthetics.
Accessibility must go beyond the screen, especially for rural users.
Next Steps
Integrate pharmacy delivery and insurance APIs.
Expand to francophone Africa with multilingual UX.
Build a web portal for clinics to manage appointments.
Final Words
Building this product taught me more than any other project. About systems thinking, design for real-world complexity, and what it means to make tech truly helpful.
Thanks to every mentor, user, and tester who helped shape this. I’m excited to bring this same mindset to global teams solving meaningful problems.
